Hypnotherapy for conception

Why you might want to consider Hypnotherapy for conception.

Research has shown that hypnotherapy is a beneficial aid not only to natural conception but also when used in conjunction with artificial reproduction techniques such as IVF.

The evidence is compelling.

A further study in Israel showed that the success rates of IVF treatments doubled from 14% to 28% when the women underwent hypnosis during embryo implantation.

So it’s not all woo, there is something not fully understood happening.

The workings of the unconscious

Cognitive Hypnotherapy

There are several different approaches (a bit like exist in Psychotherapy). I studied Cognitive Hypnotherapy at the Quest Institute, which blends these approaches. In 2015 a peer-reviewed article compared Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy (QCH) with national results for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT).

“QCH may offer a brief, effective treatment for clients with clinically significant levels of anxiety and/or depression, widening client choice.”

This is a wonderful and unique achievement demonstrating the robustness of QCH as a therapy model. In an average of six sessions, 71% reported themselves recovered, compared to 42% of people using other IAPT therapies.

So how does this work?

Within my practice, most women who book my services do so towards the end of their infertility journey. I am the ‘last hope saloon’. They are often exhausted, physically and emotionally at this point. If there were one thing I could change, it would be that women accessed services like mine much earlier in their journey, not the end.

1) So the first step is to look at the past, and any limiting beliefs in place. These can be held in the unconscious outside awareness. They need to be worked through and resolved. Hypnosis is an excellent tool for finding these issues.

2) The second step is to focus on the now. Embracing and living a fertile life. Accessing the imagination by using guided visualisations and hypnotherapy recordings to heal, and boost the bodies fertility. Or for those following assisted conception using self-hypnosis during IVF transfer and relevant audio recordings over the 2-week wait.

3) The third step, perhaps the most important, is to give the body some time to adjust and catch up. I am talking months, not days or weeks.

4) The final step is to keep going and stop trying. Just allow things to happen and trust that you have done everything you can. If you’re in a position to do so, switch your focus onto something else, take an extended break, switch your job, sell your house, plan a gap year, or take up a new hobby. Yes, this final step can be what makes everything fall into place.
